Multi-ship days — book tours early

Where cruise ships dock in Mazatlán

All cruise ships dock at the Mazatlán cruise terminal (Puerto Mazatlán), located on the southeast edge of the city. After you walk off the ship, you’ll take a short shuttle tram from the berth to the terminal building (the port is a working cargo facility, so passengers can’t walk directly to the gate).

From the terminal to the city:

• To the Malecón / Centro Histórico: ~2 km (1.2 miles). Most passengers take a pulmonía (Mazatlán’s iconic open-air taxi — part golf cart, part VW) for about 150–200 MXN (about $9–11 USD). Regular green-and-white taxis (taxis ecológicos) are also available. Aurigas (pickup-truck taxis) are another option.
• To the Zona Dorada (Golden Zone): about 6–8 km. Same pulmonía or taxi; expect around 250–300 MXN (about $14–17 USD).
• Walking: The port area itself has a few small shops and a marked walking path that leads into the historic district. It’s doable if you want the walk (20–30 minutes to Centro), but most people ride.

Many independent tour operators include pickup at the cruise terminal in their pricing, so you won’t need to arrange your own ride if you’re on a tour.

What to do with your Mazatlán port day

1. Pick one big thing — not three. You have about 6–8 hours ashore from gangway to all-aboard. That’s enough for one substantial activity plus a meal.
